PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - The Rose Parade is underway in Southern California.
The 130th annual parade got started Tuesday in Pasadena with a performance by the grand marshal, singer Chaka Khan. The theme of the 2019 parade is "The Melody of Life."
Dozens of people bundled up and slept along the route, which saw gusty winds and overnight temperatures in the 30s (about 3 degrees Celsius).
Those who braved the cold will be rewarded by daytime highs of about 60 degrees (16 Celsius), calm breezes and plenty of sunshine.
The parade features flower-covered floats, equestrian groups and marching bands. Among them are bands from Ohio State University and the University of Washington, whose teams are competing in Tuesday's Rose Bowl.
Local high school senior Louise Deser Siskel is the 101st Rose Queen.
